Gabriele Lodi

Process Engineer, PhD
Solvay Specialty Polymers

Gabriele Lodi graduated magna cum laude in Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano on October 3th, 2013. His MSc thesis entitled “Modellazione termodinamica e simulazione di processi di separazione di CO2 da gas di sintesi con tecniche criogeniche” was focused on carbon dioxide removal from syngas by means of different cryogenic processes. The aim of the work was to identify the best process solution and operative conditions to obtain the separation via phase transition of CO2, in order to reduce energy consumption.

In 2013 he won the first PhD scholarship in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering sponsored by Biochemtex, a company of the Mossi & Ghisolfi Group. His research activity is focused on the identification of a process solution for low cost purification of ligno-cellulosic derived sugar streams, aimed at the production of green chemical commodities. in particular he studies the possible applications of continuous chromatographic processes to the separations involved in 2nd generation biorefinery.

In the academic years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 he was awarded the “Honor Students Giuseppe Biardi” recognition for ranking in the top 5% of all students of her course of study, considering credits and average grades.

After obtaining his PhD and spending one year as post-doctoral research fellow at GASP, he has accepted a position as process engineer at Solvay Specialty Polymers.
