Federica Restelli is a Research Fellow at Dipartimento di Chimica, Materiali e Ingegneria Chimica “G. Natta” of Politecnico di Milano.  As a member of the “Group on Advanced Separation Processes & Gas Processing – GASP”, her research activity, also carried out in collaboration with Italian and foreign universities and research centers, concerns the analysis and development of new sustainable processes, with particular attention to the modelling of mass-transfer phenomena for reacting and non-reacting systems, also using commercial simulation packages such as Aspen Plus®, Aspen HYSYS®, and ProMax®. She is Adjunct Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia, where she is conducting research on hydrogen storage.

She took her MSc degree in Energy Engineering cum laude at Politecnico di Milano in 2021. In the same year, she won a PhD scholarship funded by the MUR (the Italian Ministry of University and Research) at Politecnico di Milano, where she received her PhD in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering cum laude in 2025.

Her research focuses on hydrogen transport and storage (value-chains of liquefied hydrogen, ammonia and liquid organic hydrogen carriers), CO2 capture via chemical and physical absorption, and the synthesis of e-fuels such as methanol and sustainable aviation fuels from green hydrogen and captured CO2, with a focus on techno-economic analysis of the processes.

Since the a.y. 2022/2023 she has been a teaching assistant for the courses “Impianti Chimici” (for Chemical Engineers), and “Chemical Processes and Technologies” (for Energy Engineers) at Politecnico di Milano.

She is co-advisor of Master’s theses in Chemical Engineering.

She is the first author and co-author of articles published in international journals and books or presented at national and international conferences. She is a peer reviewer for international journals.
