Giorgia De Guido is Associate Professor at Dipartimento di Chimica, Materiali e Ingegneria Chimica “G. Natta” of Politecnico di Milano. As member of the “Group on Advanced Separation Processes & Gas Processing – GASP”, her research interests are in the fields of thermodynamics, natural gas purification, steady state and dynamic process simulation, CCS technologies, and downstream purifications in bioprocesses.

She got her M.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering cum laude at Politecnico di Milano in 2012 and in 2014 she was granted the M.Sc. Degree in Chemical and Sustainable Process Engineering cum laude at Politecnico di Torino, within the Alta Scuola Politecnica (ASP) programme, with a thesis entitled “Problemi connessi alla purificazione di gas acidi mediante distillazione criogenica”. During her M.Sc. programme at Politecnico di Milano she attended a semester at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, USA) and, as an ASP student, she worked on a multidisciplinary team project about the future perspectives of joint prostheses. In 2012 she won a PhD scholarship funded by the MIUR (the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research) at Politecnico di Milano. After having spent a seven-month research period at the Centre Thermodynamique des Procédés MINES ParisTech (Fontainebleau, France), in 2016 she obtained a cum laude PhD degree and the Doctor Europaeus in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, defending her thesis entitled “Downhole Acid Gas Removal from Natural Gas”. She worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow within the Group on Advanced Separation Processes & Gas Processing (GASP) at the Department CMIC “G. Natta” of Politecnico di Milano, on the research programme “Separazione di acetone, etanolo e n-butanolo prodotti per via biologica – Progetto LIDIA ID CTN01-00063-255060”. In 2017 she got a position as Research Fellow (Ricercatore a Tempo Determinato Junior (A)) in the same Department and in 2021 she became Tenure-track Assistant Professor (Ricercatore a Tempo Determinato Senior (B)).

From the a.y. 2017-2018 to the a.y. 2021-2022 Giorgia De Guido was the instructor of the course “Chemical Processes and Technologies” at Politecnico di Milano, where she had been teaching assistant for courses in the field of the Unit Operations for Chemical Plants since 2013. From the a.y. 2022-2023 she has been the instructor of the course “Impianti Chimici” (group from M to Z) at Politecnico di Milano. She has been advisor and co-advisor of B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses in Chemical Engineering and Energy Engineering.

Giorgia De Guido is associate of Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare and she is involved in the DarkSide collaboration and in the ARIA project for the production of Argon depleted in 39Ar by cryogenic distillation.

She has been involved in several projects funded by public institutions and in research contracts between Politecnico di Milano and industrial companies, mainly Oil and Gas Companies and Engineering groups.

She is first author and co-author of papers published on peer-reviewed international scientific journals and books and she has presented the results of her research activity at international conferences. She has been also reviewer for several international journals.

In 2013 she received the “Prof. Ing. Giuseppe Pastonesi” degree award. During the Bachelor of Science attended at Politecnico di Milano, she received a medal as one of the best graduated students in the academic year 2009-2010 within the School of Industrial Process Engineering and she was awarded the “Honor Students Giuseppe Biardi” recognition for ranking in the top 5% of all students of her course of study, considering credits and average grades. In 2016 she was granted the PhD Award 2015 (PhD Degree in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano – cycle XXVIII).
