About the GASP group

GASP, Group on Advanced Separation Processes & GAS Processing, is a research group located in Dipartimento di Chimica, Materiali e Ingegneria Chimica “Giulio Natta” at Politecnico di Milano. For contacts click here.

Our mission

The mission of the GASP group is within the mission of Politecnico di Milano, which is committed to achieving excellence in research. The path towards excellence is developed along the following actions:

• support advanced and fundamental research activities;

• develop strategic partnerships with academia and industry around the world to make significant contributions to society;

• develop new interdisciplinary research lines to tackle societal challenges;

• embed scientific developments and research results into university education.

Our research

GASP has expertise in modeling/simulation of different equipment/processes not only of the oil & gas, petrochemical and process industries, but also to different topics: at the present the main research topics are related to the carbon capture and storage (CCS) sector, where the CO2 removal can be applied to the purification of natural gas, flue gas from power plants, syngas and refinery gas and biogas upgrading for biomethane production. See our Research topics.

Our methods

We are committed to meeting the highest methodological standards, that we apply in every field, to exploring the newest frontiers of research. To this aim, the coupling with an in depth modeling of thermodynamic phenomena which represent the core of the separation processes and with a multiphysic approach to complex phenomena has allowed the GASP group to go beyond the simple use of commercial simulators by utilizing them as frameworks on which to develop simulation packages with high prediction level.

Our people

We are led by Laura Annamaria Pellegrini, Full Professor of Unit Operations of Chemical Plants and have a staff composed of one associate professor, one assistant professor, one post-doc research fellow and four PhD students, with more than 10 master students per year actively working in research topics of the group. See who we are.

Our funding

We conduct research and consulting for both public and private institutions, with partners from important international research laboratories.

Our history

We originated from the traditional group of Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, whose historical focus is the modeling of process equipment/units, following the widely recognized school of Prof. Giuseppe Biardi.
