Students visiting the PT lab

The students enrolled in the course “Impianti Chimici” visited the PT lab, where they analysed the operation of a lab-scale distillation column and of an equipment to collect vapour-liquid equilibrium (VLE) and vapour-liquid-liquid equilibrium (VLLE) data.

During the visit, the students observed how the contact between the vapour and liquid phases occurs within a distillation column equipped with bubble-cup trays. They also learned how VLE and VLLE data are collected for novel systems, with a focus on water-alcohol mixtures relevant to separations in biofuel production. These data are essential for developing reliable thermodynamic models, which play a critical role in the accurate design of these processes.
